white man's burden
I thought this phrase meant that we had too much power and used it to our advantage, causing harm to others. We have to take responsibility for our actions and accept the consequences of our mistakes. Too much good intention can also lead to negative outcomes, and we have to accept that we are powerless to change the past.
It is easy to feel sympathy for someone else, but it is much harder to feel sympathy for yourself when looking at things from a different perspective. It can be difficult to accept that we may have done something wrong, and it can be even harder to forgive ourselves. It can feel like a competition to see who can be the least self-critical, and unfortunately, many of us are guilty of this.
